Job Description: Shaun Sweeney @ STEM Recruitment is working with our Dundee based client for an exciting opportunity to join their Electrochemistry team, as a senior electrochemist, to contribute to the evaluation of new materials as part of a highly experienced multidisciplinary team of scientists. Our client is rapidly expanding its R&D division focussing on the development of catalyst materials for the green hydrogen economy, particularly in the areas of PEM electrolysis and fuel cells. Areas of focus are PEM Electrolyser Catalysts, PEM Fuel Cell Catalysts, Gas Sensor Catalysts & Osmium Compounds. Key Responsibilities The successful applicant will be responsible for the preparation of electrodes and cells, the electrochemical evaluation of said electrodes using pre-defined techniques and protocols, analysis of data, distribution of information via internal reporting systems, and supervision of junior electrochemists. Electrochemical evaluation would cover both RDE/thin film and CCM/MEA testing, with the opportunity to continually expand and improve understanding and capabilities regarding PEM technologies and electrochemical testing. Support and training will be provided where necessary, but it is expected that a senior electrochemist will work largely independently. Primary responsibilities include:-Fabrication of RDE/thin film electrodes and CCMsRun/analyse/interpret any and all electrochemical measurements independentlyDesign of experiments for evaluation of new materialsRegular review of techniques and methodology to enable continual improvements in data qualityCompiling internal reports for distribution of key informationCoordinating with other scientists for the scheduling and prioritisation of projects/catalysts, based on the availability of testing resourcesSupervision of junior ECs or studentsPerson SpecificationElectrochemistry background:PhD (or dedicated MsC) in applicable electrochemical fieldAdvanced electrochemistry learning (e.g. Bath EC summer school) ▪ OrBackground in general chemistry (BSc/MSc) with electrochemistry modulesSignificant experience running relevant EC measurements (3+ years)Advanced electrochemistry learning (e.g. Bath EC summer school)Able to keep accurate records and to compile technical reports.
