Our Mechanical/Piping Design Engineers utilise their knowledge and experience of the UK’s onshore natural gas distribution/transmission industry to provide expert advice and guidance to our customers as they look to transition into decarbonised areas such as Hydrogen production/storage/transmission, CCS and BioGas.
In conjunction with colleagues across DNV, including our full scale testing site at Spadeadam , we are already leading the way with projects such as HyNet, H100, HyDeploy, HyStreet and Future Grid. This opportunity therefore provides you with not only the scope to further develop your technical onshore gas knowledge, but also progress into these exciting new areas and/or take broader technical and commercial responsibility for leading and developing one of our growing engineering teams.
Reporting to our Design Manager from our Edinburgh offices, you will be responsible for the following:
Review client’s technical documentation and submissions and determine the potential impacts and/or mitigation required to complete the project works Provide expertise on piping material, valves, control and systems equipment and advising on use of standards, practices, guidelines and procedures Ensures Construction, Design and Management regulations (CDM) is built into all designs produced, and that all issues are mitigated to tolerable levels Prepare, and/or contribute to the development of technical aspects of bid documentation for solutions to customer requests, including project management, control of change and scope growth Undertaking on-site inspections and audits, producing and presenting technical reports to customers where necessary and checking/reviewing the work of others Provide technical governance in specialist areas of engineering design, operations and construction, including coaching, managing or mentoring other team members/contract personnel as required, sharing knowledge, experience and skills to support their development Develop own technical knowledge to become registered on design Approver/Appraiser competency register MyCDA as a G17/G35/PS6 Mechanical Approver/Appraiser in one or more of the following areas:
Mechanical, 2 to ≤ 7 bar steel pipelines Cathodic Protection systems Mechanical, above 7 bar steel pipelines Mechanical, below 7 bar PE pipelines Mechanical, below 7 bar AGI’s Mechanical, Hazardous Area Classification
Minimum 2:1 degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Process or Gas Engineering and ideally Chartered Status (or working towards), either with IGEM, IMechE or equivalent Proven onshore Gas Design experience in UK Distribution/Transmission fields (IGEM/TD/1, IGEM/TD/3, IGEM/TD/4, IGEM/TD/12, IGEM/TD/13, IGEM/SR/25) demonstrating a strong working knowledge of UK natural gas Legislative compliance issues Resilient, works with pace and optimism to overcome obstacles, communicate, and deliver commercial fit-for-purpose solutions Customer-orientated project management approach, demonstrating the ability to plan, monitor and co-ordinate key contract and multi-discipline activities Self-motivated and passionate about your own personal and professional development, including maintaining and developing your technical knowledge and accreditations Creative and open-minded, with a willingness to seek out and maximise new challenges/opportunities through collaborating with and leveraging the expertise of others Must possess full UK driving license and be willing to travel within UK and potentially oversees when required
