The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of technical consultancy and advice including project management and project leadership. Further to this the undertaking of feasibility, conceptual and detail design studies and development strategies with hands-on design leading to the development of client reports and engineering drawings. You can expect to be active on a number of projects and client accounts at any given time. You will be supported by a team of experienced technical staff of various grades, some of whom you will be expected to provide mentoring and support.
You will be responsible for ensuring your projects are delivered to budget, programme and technical standards and meet QA, CDM and SHEQ requirements as necessary and applicable.
The position will also involve liaison with clients and fellow professionals, preparation of fee proposals, business development and work winning duties, and the provision of technical support, plus financial control of projects when acting as a project manager.

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Engineer into join our engineering department and specifically our Gas and Hydrogen discipline helping to contribute towards its continuing success
Your new role, what’s involved?
Our Gas & Hydrogen team sits within the Industry Division of the company and specialises in providing high quality technical consultancy and advice to both governmental and private sector clients, involving project planning, due diligence and design issues relating to fuel supplies for power generation, natural gas transmission, distribution, decarbonisation and storage systems. In addition, we provide technical consultancy on natural gas related infrastructures associated with Residential, Retail, Industrial and Commercial Developments, both in the UK and overseas. We also provide technical consultancy and advice on wider sustainability issues and work closely with other WSP engineering disciplines on high profile major multi-disciplinary projects, contributing to the wider success of the UK Energy and Industry team.
Currently the Gas & Hydrogen team encompasses staff grades ranging from Chief Engineer to Graduate Engineer and the team sits alongside other specialist engineering discipline teams and shared resources across the engineering teams.
Mainly office based in one of the UK regional offices but with some UK and overseas travel.
Core industry teams are generally based in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow, but WSP have offices in numerous locations and have some flexibility in locations depending on specifics of role.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
The successful applicant will have the ability to produce technical reports, perform site appraisals, design calculations and the management of project drawings together with technical independence within the field of gas and hydrogen transportation, distribution and storage systems design.
You will have a good knowledge of the relevant UK and international gas industry design codes such as IGEM/TD/1; TD/13; TD/4; TD/3; ASME: B31.8; B31.3; B31.4; PD8010 etc. and be well versed in the development of project documentation, preparation and interpretation of drawings, Materials and Equipment Data sheets. Familiarity with UK gas design governance processes GL/5, G/17, G/35 and PS/6 would be advantageous. Knowledge of Gas Industry standards IGEM, Cadent, SGN, NGN, National Grid, WWU and GIS would be advantageous. You will also be aware of current and emerging technical and legislative requirements and applicable guidance documents. Fully conversant in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of software applications, competence in other technical software applications would be advantageous to the position e.g. AutoCAD and PDS. The ability to direct and check design outputs making use of this software would be seen as a further advantage.
Qualifications:
Ideally, degree qualified in a relevant engineering disciplineChartered status (CEng, MIGEM, IMechE, MEI) or have equivalent technical experience to work towards this.
