Job Description: As Principal Pipeline Engineer you will be leading the Pipeline Engineering effort across a range of key Infra-structure projects. Costain is a leading provider of innovative infra-structure solutions within Water Distribution, Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Generation technologies. Our delivery includes Storage and Distribution from early Scoping and Concept through to FEED, Detail Design, Construction and Commissioning. Responsible for the technical content, solutions and delivery of Pipeline Engineering activities and deliverables on any given project.
Responsible for the checking and approval of design work in accordance with Company Procedures.
To plan for adequate resources and to monitor and report design progress in line with the project schedule (SPI) and hours spent against earned value (CPI).
To Liaise And Coordinate With Other Disciplines As Required.
To cascade information to individuals on organisational performance, policy, and procedures and to report back to the Engineering Manager comments and recommendations for continuous improvements in performance and removal of constraints.
To offer advice and support to colleagues and subordinates on personal and career development.
Provide training, information, or instruction and to give feedback. To set objectives, to assist colleagues and subordinates in achieving objectives.
To be aware of legal and organisational responsibilities regarding Health, Safety Sustainability and Environmental issues with respect to employees, contractors, clients and third parties, ensuring that activities are all managed in accordance with Company policy and client requirements. Qualifications:
A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering. Chartered Engineer and/or 10 years’ experience in this specialist discipline.
Application of relevant regulatory codes and standards (e.g. PD810)
Specification and methods of Pipeline Crossing Details and Strip Map details
Pipeline Laying, Jointing Details and Backfill Compaction Requirements
Demonstrable use in the application modern GIS software Packages
Requirements for Hydraulic and Thermal Stress Analysis and the use of Thrust Blocks.
Ground Bearing Analysis and Proximity Assessments
Competence in the requirements for CDM Principal Designer roles and duties
Experience in the requirements for UKCA marking of plant and equipment.
Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements
Team Player with excellent communication skills and proactive in engaging with colleagues and relevant stakeholders
Focused on business improvement by proactively creating efficiencies, supporting the recruitment of talented people, promoting the Costain brand and contributing to an excellent working environment
Works with paramount consideration of Health Safety, the Environment and risk reduction and management. Experience and working knowledge of the Principles of Water Supply Hygiene.
