The opportunity
Transport Scotland recently awarded Amey the Northeast Trunk Road Network Management Contract. This 8-year contract (extendable to 12 years) begins in August 2022 and builds upon our success in winning the Southwest Trunk Road Network Management Contract in 2020. Designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects in Scotland with cumulative values in-excess of £1bn these long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages in their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network.
In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established Contractors across the county. The role
Due to increased workload, we are seeking to recruit a Transportation / Civil Engineer.  The successful candidate will undertake and oversee production of technical design, leading a dedicated design engineering team taking schemes from inception through design to construction.

In a typical week you will
Develop effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief. Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements. Undertake feasibility studies, appraisal / assessment reports and other written documents. Comply with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Supervise and mentor junior members of staff. Provide support to the Senior Designer/Engineer within the design team on various design duties including: Surveys/Inspections Feasibility and other technical reports Planning, programming and cost estimation Design production Produce design schedules Review and amend design drawings Produce Specifications Support development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians Work to programme to deliver specified designs on budget and in time Prepare technical reports (eg Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports) Develop innovation and best practice on key deliverables Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards
We want to hear from you if you have
A recently qualified Chartered Engineer MICE, MIHE, MCIHT, MIStructE  or TPP Demonstratable experience of delivering competent designs of minor improvements such as major junction layouts including traffic signals, lining and signing schemes for both the trunk and local road networks  Principal Designer with working knowledge of current CDM and H&S requirements  Computer literate and conversant with relevant engineering software packages such Keylines, Keyposts, Civils 3D        Experience in technical delivery as well as delivering traffic and transportation schemes. Developed experience and expertise within Highways/Transportation engineering, probably gained in a Assistant Designer/Assistant Engineer role or equivalent Knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to the civil engineering discipline An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound transportation engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements working under supervision Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations Understanding of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment You are happy to agree a programme of actions towards successful achievement of industry recognised qualifications, ie Incorporated or Chartered Engineer with a relevant body Good commercial awareness and knowledge of budgets and programmes
