Transport Scotland recently awarded Amey the Northeast Trunk Road Network Management Contract. This 8-year contract (extendable to 12 years) begins in August 2022 and builds upon our success in winning the Southwest Trunk Road Network Management Contract in 2020. Designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects in Scotland with cumulative values in-excess of £1bn these long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages in their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network.
In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established Contractors across the county. Due to increased workload, we are seeking to recruit an Assistant Engineer / Transportation.
As an Assistant Civil Engineer at Amey Consulting, you’ll see your work from early design to the very end result, and every project will be different from the last. Supported by a wider team of 20 highway designers, we’ll help you shape your career whether through further qualification, learning new skills or whatever else you need to achieve your ambitions.
In a typical week you will:
Develop effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief.Undertake a wide range of design work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance.Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements.Progress projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements and innovation.Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDMSupervise, mentor and develop team members from graduate engineers and technicians through to senior engineers.Assist with contract preparation together with project planning and programming.Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees.Support the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts.Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees.Effective management and response of project related correspondence.Undertake site supervision duties of contractors as and when required.Checks to ensure compliance with the integrated management system and assist in development.Prepare and check off feasibility studies, appraisal / assessment reports and other written documents.Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options.Complete performance appraisals with direct reports and provide learning and development opportunities where possible.Provide support to the Engineer and Senior Engineer within the design team on various design duties including:Surveys/InspectionsFeasibility and other technical reportsPlanning, programming and cost estimationDesign productionProduce design schedulesAmend design drawingsSupport development of Graduate Engineers and TechniciansWork to programme to deliver specified designs on timeEnsure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicableDrive effective health and safety practices within your Team
We want to hear from you if you have:
You have a Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subjectYou have made progress towards completion of a formal professional training programme with an appropriate professional bodyYou are able to demonstrate experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalentYou are able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working under supervisionYou are experienced in following procedures associated with health, safety and welfare, g. Construction (Design and Management) RegulationsYou are able to comply with technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
